![]() The Launcher accepts the Userid and Password information you type in and passes it to the Authentication Server, which returns a TOKEN to the Launcher. The Launcher queries the "Global Location Server" (GLS) to get the IP addresses of the login server, patch server and the game servers. when the Launcher is launched, it will always go to via the DNS. The IP address for is "hard-coded" into the Launcher. (This is far more obvious with the Mac Client than the PC Client, but both have the same components within their internal file structures.) Unless Turbine has radically altered the structure of things, LOTRO is two pieces - the Launcher and the Game Client. Obviously that is not possible with LoTRO. As a gamer and customer I just want to pay for a game, install it, start it and it should run well and I should just have fun and play it. Simply beacuse it doesn't run well and we have to figure out and submit as much info to Turbine and our ISP's as possible as it seems noone that is paid for it and have this as their job seems to be able to figure it out otherwise. It is kind of insane that as a gamer/customer one obviously have to start studying all this technical stuff to be able to play LoTRO. Then of course also note this explanation from Valamar which is very interesting and I'm just now rereading that and trying to understand. You can even compare by using a default ICMP trace engine for a while and save it's image then switch to using the TCP trace engine and save it's image just to compare the two PingPlotter trace routings. WinDump can be used to watch, diagnose and save to disk network traffic according to various complex rules. is also the home of WinDump, the Windows version of the popular tcpdump tool. Some of these networking tools, like Wireshark, Nmap, Snort, ntop are known and used throughout the networking community. Thanks to its set of features, WinPcap is the packet capture and filtering engine of many open source and commercial network tools, including protocol analyzers, network monitors, network intrusion detection systems, sniffers, traffic generators and network testers. This library also contains the Windows version of the well known libpcap Unix API. ![]() WinPcap consists of a driver, that extends the operating system to provide low-level network access, and a library that is used to easily access the low-level network layers. WinPcap is the industry-standard tool for link-layer network access in Windows environments: it allows applications to capture and transmit network packets bypassing the protocol stack, and has additional useful features, including kernel-level packet filtering, a network statistics engine and support for remote packet capture. ![]() To use the TCP trace route alternative/option in it and not just the standard ICMP (which will come up with destination address not reachable and some * * * along the way) You also need to download and install the latest wincap library/WinPcap: HOWEVER and this is important for that option to be useable: It did go down to 0% sometimes of course but that was the only place that showed on the whole trace that ever had packet losses. At least during the period I was using PingPlotter. This is how I today could see that the destination IP Address 198.252.160.30 had 0.8% up to 32% packet loss alot of the time. ![]() BUT You will see the destination and it's ping/ms, packet loss etc. They will off course show 100,0 red as that is as it seems the default if no info available. ![]() Then You won´'t get that Destination Address Unreachable but acctually be able to see packet loss even at 198.252.160.30 which is You will also note 2 more hops just before that will show no information at all as they are probably blocked from showing anything, not even IP. You should under "Edit" -> "Options" -> "Engine" use that top scroll option to change engine to "TCP Packets (ie: HTTP, etc)". Guys You are still letting PingPlotter use the default Command Promts standrad ICMP tracert. ![]()
